Mr. Narwhal, crafted by James Bolt at The Gin Joint in Charleston, S.C., playfully swirls rum’s rich warmth with the festive flavor of Cheerwine Holiday Punch, capturing the whimsy of the holidays in a glass.
Ingredients
Cocktail
- 1 ½ Ounce Mekhong Rum
- 1 Ounce Cheerwine Holiday Punch Syrup*
- ½ Ounce Velvet Falernum
- ½ Ounce Angostura Bitters
- 1 Ounce Fresh Lime Juice
- 1 Egg White
Cheerwine Holiday Punch Syrup
- 4 Cups Cheerwine Holiday Punch
- 2 Cups Sugar
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
- 2 Star Anise Pods
- 4 Tablespoons Cacao Nibs
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1 Tablespoon Allspice Berries
Instructions
Cocktail
Place all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Shake hard for 15-20 seconds. Take the cocktail shaker apart add ice to the shaker and shake hard again for 15-20 seconds. Strain with a Hawthorn Strainer and tea strainer into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with Angostura Bitters.
This cocktail can also be made without the egg white.
You can also substitute your favorite rum instead of Mekhong Rum.
Cheerwine Syrup
Combine all ingredients into a medium saucepan and turn on medium heat. Once it begins to simmer, stir the ingredients making sure nothing sticks to the bottom of the pot. Turn down to low heat and let cook for 5-7 minutes. Turn off heat and let pot sit for 15-20 minutes so that ingredients can infuse into the syrup. Then, strain off syrup and store syrup in the fridge until ready to use.
